Summary of the trip

Friday 26 October 06.30/8.30 arrive 5.15pm

Return on 2 November or 4 November landing at 10am on 3 or 5 November

Visa

Need one in advance.  You will need to send us a photo of your passport photo page and then we get the visa.  It then gets e mailed to you and you print it out and bring with you.

Insurance

We arrange a special insurance that covers travel, baggage, medical and repatriation if necessary.

Accommodation

You will stay in Destiny Village in the first homes that we have built.  Our staff team live there. This has a fan and cold showers (but it is hot!).  We sleep under mosquito nets.

Food and Water

We provide all the food and water in the contribution and will include a couple of nights in restaurants. Only drink bottled or bagged water.  Most of the food is cooked and eaten in the village. If you want beer/wine then we ask you cover that at extra.

Transport

We will have a minibus to collect you from the airport (2.5 hour drive) and be with us through the week.

Safety

During the day there are many people around and it is safe.  At night it remains safe but we do have security guards around.

Contribution

We ask that you contribute £1,250 if you can gift aid it.  If not we ask for £1,350.

Money

The only additional money you will need is for giving, alcoholic drinks and souvenirs.  If you are able to raise any additional funds 100% of it will go towards our project work.

Programme

Each day will start with a thought for the day/devotion and end with a short time of reflections.  We find communicating how things are going works well.

The mornings will typically involve some work in the village.  We are building homes and the school when you come so there will be a lot of activity.  We will offer several task choices. It may also be we have some tasks that fit your skill set, whatever experience you bring.

In the afternoon we will visit some of our partners.  This may include the local hospital, a residence for the elderly, an opportunity to teach a class in a school, polio communities and a young peoples street kids work.

Length of stay

There are 2 options and will either do 7 or 9 days.

Application form

If you would like to come, we ask that you complete our application form (attached) and send £600 (if Gift aid) and £700 if not, per person so we can get the flights booked.  The form asks for personal and medical details, has a gift aid form, a liability release and our policy on children and vulnerable adults which we ask you to sign. We would like the balance paid by 15 September 2018.

Orientation

We will have a time together in Luton in September 2018, depending on who is coming. It would be ideal if you could come to that to meet other participants but Nigel will cover things by phone/skype if you can’t.

Detailed information

If you would like to come we will send you a detailed information booklet that covers about us, the project, programme, what to bring and wear, fundraising, personal preparation and ideas about coming home.

Who can come

This is for anyone interested in our work and would like to get personal insight and go deeper.  Do invite a friend to join you.
