The goal of the series is to revisit this amazing part of the history of Gods people. It is good in itself to remind ourselves of this biblical truth and history contained within Exodus, and so we should take time to cover the story itself, the way events unfolded, and the impact in-the-moment.
What are we expecting to hear from God through this teaching series? As I have prayed I have felt that God wants to emphasise certain elements:
- A calling together. The story of Exodus is a story of a group of people who were growing together in their understanding and experience of God. Starting as a group of slaves they would over time become a distinct people, a nation, with traditions, and also a people/army devoted to God.
- To re-discover the holiness and awesome-ness and power of God, and His mystery. There is a level of intensity throughout this wonderful stage of the forming of the people of God. It’s not 100% intense all of the time, rather there are times of intensity in a clear extended period of years where God working and moving. Likewise for us at Hope Church – this is a clear season of God working and moving amongst us. A season of trusting in Him as our rock, together as things sometimes shake and change around us.
- JOURNEY and FAITHFULNESS. To be reminded that He is a faithful and covenanted God, faithful through these events, through the Bible, and equally to His people today. We are to be a people who are walking step-by-step with him, through the Blessings and Challenges.

The Bible chooses to speak of us becoming adopted as a people of God. What we can learn from this covenanting and faithfulness of God with the Hebrew nation? What this tells us about God’s heart for humans, and for those he’s particularly covenanted with. “It is our brothers, sisters, parents in the Israel of God, that found Him to be covenant keeping, redeemer, angel of the Lord, divine pilgrimage companion, and the Holy One living with them. He is still unchangeably the same.”
