The idea of fasting causes different responses and reactions in different people. Some people don’t like to fast for different reasons, and some people have never really considered it. For me , the story is very different. I believe that fasting is a biblical practice that we see in both the old and new testaments. I believe that it is right that we have certain times where we call upon God with an additional urgency. Personally I have experienced many answers to prayer and helpful words from God when I have fasted and prayed over the previous years of my Christian life. I normally fast at different times throughout the year.
Right now in our church family life, there are several areas which are particularly on my heart, and I feel it would be right for a group of us to fast corporately together. I feel we should pray and fast because we need God in the situations around us, but also because we need Him as we move forward with purpose. We need God, His leadership, His voice, and His breakthrough.
I am hoping for at least 20 people to join me in committing to some prayer and fasting over the coming 6 months period. The prayer and fasting would happen once per month, and there will be a supporting WhatsApp group just for that period. We would be particularly focussing and praying for the following:
1. To pray for a people who have been experiencing a significant period of illness / battle in their life. In particular, for Joanne and Steve Dikoume but also for other significant situations where people in our church family are struggling.
2. To pray for an increasing sense Of God’s presence amongst us. Yes in our Sunday meetings, but also in our evangelism to non believers. We long for more salvations.
3. To pray for Open House for volunteers and for financial resources.
